San Diego Roots Sustainable Food Project
In 2002, the Back Country Land Trust expanded its mission to include local farmland as a priority. A group of dedicated citizens, working under the name ALOFT, approached BCLT and asked us to be their sponsor. ALOFT has since changed its name to San Diego ROOTS: Sustainable Food Project and has become a fundamental piece of BCLT's conservation work. ROOTS' mission is to create a network of small, local, organic farms to encourage a healthy, fresh, and sustainable food supply for the San Diego community. We're working with a generous landowner in East County who shares our vision of preserving San Diego's rural heritage and will soon plant a garden on the Morse High School campus in the Skyline/Paradise Hills community in San Diego.
