Hauser Mountain Wilderness Area

In 2002, BCLT participated in the protection of wildlife corridor and watershed lands in Tecate by conducting legal research for Pronatura's conservation efforts. With funding from the International Community Foundation, BCLT hired a summer legal intern to create "Legal Tools for Conservation" and coordinate efforts with San Diego State University and Pronatura. This effort led to an invitation in 2003 to participate in a 3,600 acre land conservation project in Potrero. Preserving lands within the Hauser Mountain Wilderness Area protects biological and cultural resources intact on a landscape scale. BCLT is working together with many partners to accomplish this preservation project, including Cal-BLMX, the federal Bureau of Land Management, Resources Legacy Fund Foundation, Klein-Edwards Professional Services, Susan Hector Consulting, and County of San Diego. Resources protected include an extensive list of federal, state, and county listed species such as Mountain Lion, Southern Mule Deer, Southwestern Arroyo Toad, San Diego Fairy Shrimp, White-Tailed Kite, Southwestern Willow Flycatcher, Least Bell's Vireo, Quino Checkerspot Butterfly, Orcutt's Brodeia, Dunn's Mariposa Lily, and much more.
